After Easter – What Next..?
Every Sunday is a little Easter — a day to celebrate the resurrection and the new life we share in Jesus Christ. Today we mark the second Sunday of Easter, part of a season that stretches all the way to Pentecost, when we will celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Church.
Throughout these seven weeks, we hear of many encounters with the risen Christ — appearing in an upper room, walking alongside the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and by the lakeside. It’s one of my favourite passages, telling of the miraculous catch of 153 fish, and Peter’s threefold call to “feed my sheep” — a call to leadership and care for the Church.
This year, the story feels especially poignant as the Roman Catholic Church looks to appointing Pope Francis’ successor — and Peter’s. Yet the call to continue sharing the good news is not just for Popes and ministers; it’s for all of us.
As Jesus invited the fishermen to cast their nets differently, we too are invited to try new ways to reach today’s generations with Christ’s love.
